Help, There’s an Emergency!

Emergencies can occur during a pet-sitting service, no matter how cautious the pet sitter is. Here are some scenarios that might arise and steps to take in these situations:

If a Pet is Sick or Injured:

  1. Contact the Pet Owner and/or their Emergency Contact: Keep them updated on the situation.
  2. Obtain Permission: Get the pet owner’s and/or their emergency contact’s approval for any actions to be taken.
  3. Take the Pet to a Veterinarian: Bring the pet to the local vet or animal clinic preferred by the pet owner.
  4. Inform Petbnb: Email us at hilfe@petbnb.de with "EMERGENCY" in the subject line. Explain what happened, what actions were taken, and whether the pet is well-cared for or still in critical condition.

If a Pet Goes Missing:

  1. Inform the Pet Owner and/or their Emergency Contact: Keep them updated throughout the search for the pet.
  2. Report the Loss: Report the missing pet to the nearest police station. Also, notify local animal shelters or animal collection points and distribute flyers if necessary.
  3. Contact Local Vets: Call as many veterinarians as possible to report the missing pet. Many finders are unsure where to take the animal and might bring it to a vet.
  4. Search Nearby Areas: Look in areas the pet might have wandered into, such as nearby parks or areas it might have tried to return to.
  5. Notify Petbnb: Email us at hilfe@petbnb.de if the pet is still missing. Use "EMERGENCY" in the subject line and provide details about how the pet went missing.

Pre-Sitting Information:

Before the pet-sitting begins, it is crucial for the pet sitter and the pet owner to discuss all relevant details regarding the pet’s medical history and behavior, such as:

  • Existing medical conditions (e.g., allergies or illnesses)
  • Previous severe injuries or trauma
  • Is the pet currently in heat?
  • Is the pet house-trained?
  • Does the pet jump fences, dig under fences, or is it an escape artist? Should it not be off-leash?

This information can be exchanged via phone and/or email or discussed during a personal meeting with the pet sitter, pet owner, and their pet(s).
